This certainly made up for very interesting reading. You will be interested to know that there is a product out there that does exactly this - i.e. provide a full-suite DW-BI platform specific to the analytical needs of retailers. The product is ARC - Integrated Retail Business Intelligence Suite, and the software has segment specific variants, for example, fashion & apparel, food & grocery and specialty merchandise.
